The Riding School is full of history, character, charm and even a rowing boat…!
The bare brick walls, high ceilings, exposed oak beams and original windows create a romantic, rustic elegance that lends itself perfectly to every couple, their personality and style. The Riding School is beautifully situated on the Calke Abbey estate and is surrounded by over 600 acres of rolling Derbyshire Parkland, woodland, original greenhouses and an incredible orangery!
The lush greenery and the immaculately manicured gardens provide the most wonderful botanical backdrops for your photographs of which you are able to explore on your special day.
In addition to this, we will support you every step of the way. With years of experience in the hospitality and weddings industry, you can be assured that you are in safe hands!
Our dedicated team will take care of you right from your initial meeting through to the full co-ordination of your wedding day.
We always strive to gain a true understanding of your vision for your special day and will work closely with you to bring your ideas to life. We can help you as much or as little as you like.
We can help you search for the perfect suppliers to suit your day, we’ll deal with logistics and with plenty of meetings (coffee and cake are always included!!) we will always do everything we can to ensure that you have a joyful and stress free planning journey.
To ensure that weddings at The Riding School remain exclusive, we only host 25 weddings a year. Our wedding season at The Riding School takes place from
May to October.

Here’s how weddings run at The Riding School….
Set up
& Decor
We will take care of all of the logistics for your day. From taking delivery of the cake to arranging timings with the band, we’ll do it all! We’ll set your tables and you can either come and add the finishing touches or if you’d rather – we can do this for you!
The
Ceremony
The Riding School is a truly memorable setting to exchange your vows surrounded by your family & friends but if you’d prefer to marry in a church or at an alternative venue – we’ll excitedly await your arrival as the newlyweds!
Drinks & Canape Reception
Following on from your ceremony, you can enjoy drinks and canapes in our beautiful bar – lounge area. You are able to spill out into the courtyard and enjoy the weather whilst all of your guests celebrate you becoming a married couple!
Photographs in the Grounds
The perfect escape for the two of you! We’ll whisk you off into the gardens for some romantic, memorable photographs before returning to the Riding School.
Speeches & The Wedding Breakfast
Once you have taken your seats, you can enjoy the speeches followed by the wedding breakfast or the wedding breakfast followed by the speeches – or no speeches at all – it’s entirely up to you!
Evening Reception
A quick freshen up and it’ll be time for your evening guests to arrive! We’ll leave you for a little while before announcing the cutting of the cake followed by your first dance! Then it’s time to don your dancing shoes and party the night away!
